Whale Watching
It's the season for whale watching at Head of Bight on South Australia's remote far West Coast. It's a spot famous for its land-based viewing of the magnificent Southern Right Whales. Few other locations in Australia provide such a great viewing opportunity without impacting on the whales.
Giant Australian Cuttlefish
Now is the time to see some of the most amazing creatures of the sea on their annual breeding migration to the rocky shores near Whyalla. The May - August gathering is considered to be the largest congregation of Giant Cuttlefish in the world. These fascinating cephalopod's can change shape, colour and texture in order to blend in with their surroundings. Eyre Peninsula Railway Centenary Celebrations
Port Lincoln - November 18 2007, 10am
Cummins - November 18 2007, 4.30pm
Centenary celebrations to commemorate 100 years since the railway line from Port Lincoln to Cummins was opened will be held at the Port Lincoln Railway station at 10am.
Highlights to include a special grain train, courtesy of Genesee & Wyoming Australia, to depart Port Lincoln station at 2pm for Cummins. The train will be hauled by No. 850 diesel locomotive, which has been in service on Eyre Peninsula for forty-five years and will re-enact the service provided by SA Railway and Post Master General in days gone by. Other highlights on the day include unveiling of commemorative plaque, launching of Peter Knifes book "Eyre Peninsula Railway Stories", free hurdy-gurdy rides, icecream and drinks for school children. A light lunch will be served and you're invited to inspect the Railway Station museum and the recently renovated freight shed museum.
Cummins - Free family event 'under the starts in the Cummins railway triangle'. Centenary celebrations with bus dancing, old-fashioned children's games, train movies and meet Peter Goers from ABC radio. Bring along your own 'tucker box' picnic tea, or Cummins tea room fare will be available for purchase. Celebrations begin in Cummins at 4.30pm with the arrival of the commemorative train fro Port Lincoln.
