Walks
The uniquely Australian landscape of the Mallee, combined with picturesque river scenery, makes scenic drives and walks a pleasure in the Murraylands.
South Australia's Murray River Trail follows the bends and curves of the river, and offers stopping points at historic attractions, towns and other points of interest within the Murraylands region.
Four-wheel drive enthusiasts will enjoy the various trails in Ngarkat Conservation Park and Karte Conservation Park. Walkers will enjoy the Rail and River Walk in Murray Bridge, the Callington Heritage Trail (which can also be driven) and the Sedan Heritage Trail. Mannum Falls on the Mannum to Murray Bridge Road boasts some fantastic scenery, spectacular gorges in summer and cascading waterfalls in winter, best enjoyed via the moderate walking trails.
Long-distance walkers should consider the 79-kilometre Lavender Federation Trail, which travels from Murray Bridge to Tungkillo. It passes old railyards, river wetlands, rugged gorges and vast tracts of farming land, and is one of the most scenic walks in South Australia.
