Water Conservation
Whether you want to spend a few days on a historic paddle-wheeler, meander down the river on a houseboat or enjoy a short scenic cruise, the Murray River is one of South Australia's most popular holiday destinations.
While across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia current inflows to the Murray River system are low, the South Australian section is fortunate to have a system of locks and weirs that maintain a consistent pool level. This guarantees consistent water levels for houseboating and water sports, irrespective of droughts that have frequently occurred.
The tourism industry is mindful of environmental issues facing the Murray River - and is committed to minimising the impact of visitors to the region.
While you're on holiday in South Australia, we need you to help us preserve our precious water. You can do this by keeping your showers short (less than five minutes), washing boats or vehicles with a bucket instead of a hose, cleaning fish in basins rather than running water, and adhere to any water restrictions that may apply during your holiday.
