If you like to pitch your tent near the sound of crashing waves, stake our your space on these top South Australian camping spots:

Innes National Park, Yorke Peninsula
Campers are welcome to stay right in the heart of Innes in one of the seven well-established campsites, all with great facilities. These sites also offer easy access to numerous walking trails, bringing nature lovers face-to-face with everything from rugged, soaring cliffs to golden rolling sand dunes. Kangaroos and emus roam naturally through Innes and many species of beautiful native birds also call the park home.

Lincoln National Park
Covering the southern tip of Eyre Peninsula, this magnificent natural area of 29,000 hectares is a park of contrasts. Approximately 20 kilometres south of Port Lincoln, the sheltered open spaces and quiet bays are ideal for camping, fishing and day trips.

Kangaroo Island
Camping is permitted in designated areas on Kangaroo Island and at certain times of the year the campgrounds can be very busy, so ensure that you book your camp site ahead of time. Flinders Chase National Park has spectacular coastlines. There's the 1909 Cape du Couedic lighthouse and wildlife aplenty. Camp at Snake Lagoon, Rocky River and West Bay.

Coorong National Park, Limestone Coast
This is a 145-kilometre tapestry of lagoons, wetlands and sand dunes. The secluded beaches provide plenty of opportunities for camping, picnics and four-wheel drive adventures. Visit Camp Coorong on Lake Alexandrina to hear the history of the land through the eyes of the local Ngarrindjeri Aborigines.

Deep Creek Conservation Park, Fleurieu Peninsula
Meet echidnas, kangaroos and sea eagles in the spectacular setting of Deep Creek Conservation Park. Hike the Heysen Trail or follow the extensive network of coastal trails for views out to Backstairs Passage and Kangaroo Island. Facilities at camp sites vary from basic to hot showers. There's also Newland Head Conservation Park. If you're keen to roll out of your tent and straight into the surf this is the camp spot for you, located close to popular surf spot Waitpinga Beach.

Before camping in a National Park, you'll need to obtain a Parks Pass from the Department of Environment and Heritage.
