John Horrocks Cottage

drag onto travel planner

John Horrocks Cottage at Penwortham in the Clare Valley, South Australia, was built in 1839 by pioneer and explorer John Ainsworth Horrocks; one of the first white men to take up land in the area. He founded and named the village of Penwortham after his home in Lancashire, England.

The cottage is the oldest stone building north of Gawler, has been recently restored and is presented in as near original state as possible. Adjacent to the cottage is a restored stone out-building with a collection of photos and books depicting the history of the cottage and the local area.
