Everything you need for a great escape

Fresh seafood. Gourmet cuisine. Top wines. Beaches. Surfing. Fishing. Scuba Diving. Conservation parks. Native wildlife. Hiking trails. Historic towns with local arts and crafts. Golf.

We could go on with the list, but we'd be labouring the point. The Fleurieu Peninsula has the all the elements for a brilliant holiday.

Coastal thrills

As you'd expect from a coastal region, the Fleurieu Peninsula offers plenty of places to go swimming, fishing, or lounging on the beach.

This coastal region boasts some of the best surf in the country, with both challenging breaks for thrillseekers, and gentler waters for the beginners. Windsurfers aren't spoilt for choice either, with a plethora of great ocean breezes to fill their sails.

The abundant marine life is a huge attraction for scuba divers, who flock to the area to see the Leafy Seadragon and rainbow fish. There's also a stunning shipwreck for you to explore - the ex-HMAS Hobart, a decommissioned Navy destroyer.

Wine country

The Fleurieu Peninsula is home to some of the most prestigious winemaking areas in Australia, including the famous McLaren Vale. The history of winemaking in this region goes all the way back to 1842, and it consistently produces some of the best drops you'll ever taste.

The region's three other wine regions - Langhorne Creek, Currency Creek, and Southern Fleurieu - also produce stunning wines that seduce even the most seasoned palate.

But there's more to the Fleurieu than wine. In the area's charming towns, there are countless art galleries to browse, great places to get a meal, a wide range of accommodation options, great greens where you can practice your golf swing, and country markets where you can buy some of the local produce to take home.

And if that's not enough, the famous Heysen Trail - a hiking track that stretches across half of South Australia - starts in the Fleurieu and winds through the area's spectacular national parks.

There's plenty to do in the Fleurieu. Make sure you give yourself enough time to experience it all.
