Adelaide for Families
There's so much for children in Adelaide
Take the kids to Adelaide Zoo to see more than 1300 native and exotic animals. You can take a behind-the-scenes tour, watch animals being fed and much more.
Get the legs working on a paddleboat on Adelaide's River Torrens in the heart of the city. You can also hire bikes along the Torrens. You'll find Riverside Bike and Paddle Boat Hire by the Festival Centre, or telephone Tony on 0400 596 065 to make a booking.
Walk along North Terrace and stop at the South Australian Museum. It won't take long for each member of the family to find their favourite part of the museum - dinosaurs, birds, the giant squid, the Mawson story, the science centre or the Australian Aboriginal Culture Gallery. Take the kids to Something on Saturday at the Adelaide Festival Centre for performances and free craft workshops in the theatre foyer.

Enjoying a family holiday in Adelaide doesn't have to cost a packet. There's a huge variety of free activities on offer. Take a free tour of Haigh's, Australia's oldest chocolate making company. Explore the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and take a picnic basket.
Discover one of the many cool playgrounds that surround the city centre. Visit the Adelaide City Council for locations. There are also outstanding playgrounds in North Adelaide including Glover Playground on Le Fevre Terrace and Bush Magic Playground next to the Adelaide Aquatic Centre on Jeffcott Street. They feature slightly unusual playground equipment.
Or have fun on a bikelfun pedal car designed for adults and older children. Choose from a six seat Tourer or a three seat Roadster. You can hire bikelfuns at Rymill Park, Adelaide in the East Parklands just east of Rundle Street.
Take the tram to Holdfast Shores, Glenelg and jump on board a 17-metre catamaran as part of a Temptation cruise where you can watch dolphins swimming.
In Glenelg you'll also find the Beach House fun park and the Bay Discovery Centre in historic Glenleg Town Hall. Or experience some of the world's friendliest dolphins up close on the banks of the Port River, just 20 minutes from the city centre at Port Adelaide.
In Port Adelaide, you'll also find the Seahorse Farm, National Railway Museum, Maritime Museum and much more. It's a fabulous family destination, with sites close together and within walking distance. Why not hop on a bike, using Port Adelaide's free cycle hire?
