The picture-postcard scenery of the Adelaide Hills has long attracted a steady stream of artists, all keen to draw inspiration from the region.
Hahndorf was home to one of Australia’s most renowned landscape artists, Sir Hans Heysen. His home, The Cedars, and studio are open for guided tours, and many original works are on display.
Hahndorf’s main street has several excellent galleries, including the Hahndorf Academy, a regional centre for the arts and heritage. Based in a charming 150 year old building the Hahndorf Academy incorporates four galleries, a migration museum, artists' studios, art classes and a retail gallery.
