Barossa Heritage Trail
The Barossa Heritage Trail is the key to unlocking our heritage. Stretching north to Kapunda and south to Mount Pleasant, it links our museums, historic places and natural sites.
As you follow the trail, stop in townships along the way and take a self guided town walk. Explore each town's significant local architecture, from rustic corrugated constructions to majestic stately homes. Whether you stick to a guided trail or just follow your nose, you'll find pieces of the Barossa's history wherever you turn.
Pioneer building and original settlers homes offer clues to a lifestyle long past, hotels and heritage accommodation let you relive times gone by - with modern amenities, of course.
If you like to come prepared, there are some great books that will help give you an insight into the Barossa's rich history. For a regional overview try Explore The Barossa or Norris Ioannou's Barossa Journeys, or take a more in-depth approach with one of the many detailed town publications. They're available at bookshops, gift stores and the Barossa Visitor Information Centre, along with friendly advice and plenty of recommendations on places to go and things to see.
Some key heritage attractions featured on the trail include:
- Langmeil Winery & Turkey Flat Vineyards - some of the oldest shiraz vines in the world
- Yalumba - Australia's oldest family owned winery
- Seppelt Winery - one of Australia's most historic wineries
- Chateau Tanunda -combining historic winery buildings and a stunning cellar door
