Burra's Heritage Passport Trail is perhaps the Clare Valley's most famous heritage trails. It's an intimate discovery of Burra's fascinating past. But it's certainly not the only heritage trail you can traverse in this remarkable valley. You can walk or drive many others.

Colin Thiele was one of Australia's most popular authors, penning Storm Boy, Sun on the Stubble and many more classics. These books brought the South Australian landscape to life. The Colin Thiele Drive is a journey of approx 25 kilometres, taking in the scenic beauty the district has to offer and area of interest from the early life of Eudunda's favourite son.

The Kapunda Heritage Trail leads you on a 10 kilometre tour of the history and development of Kapunda. You'll see quarries, churches, South Australia's first police station, bluestone cottages and more. And the Kapunda Mine walk is a self-guided walk through the old mine area, past tunnels, open cuts, a miner's cottage and a mine chimney.

The Barossa Goldfields Walking Trails are made up of two loop trails. The Victoria loop is 1.2 kilometres long and takes about an hour to complete. The longer Phoenix loop is about 5 kilometres and takes 3-4 hours. There are interpretive signs along the trails.

Balaklava's three Town History Walks takes in areas that are relatively easy walking. The town centre has wheelchair access to footpaths and seating for those wishing to take a break from walking.

The Mintaro Heritage and Scenic Walk shows you a rare example of an early colonial town. Mintaro is a remarkably well preserved. Other small towns, like Hallet and Booborowie, have heritage walks to follow. Hallet History Trail, for the more energetic, is a two to three hour walking tour with a refreshment break. It may be more convenient to visit half of the landmarks by car and the others by foot. The Booborowie History Walk is 2.3 kilometres and can take approximately one hour. Booborowie Valley is prime wool sheep and cattle country, also a rich cereal and lucerne growing area.

As well as several nature trails, Riverton offers a heritage trail too. Among the first residents of Riverton were saddlers, wheelwrights and blacksmiths, whose trades were essential. Step back through time and see what life was like back in the 1850s in Riverton.
