Nature Trails
Clare Valley has a myriad of delightful walking trails, with many featuring some remarkable nature experiences. Like the Two Wells Samphire Discovery Trail at Middle Beach. It's a key area for shorebirds. It contains sites regarded as South Australia's third and fourth ranked areas for shorebirds, and has been been selected as one of ten priority sites as part of the national World Wildlife Fund Australian Shorebird Conservation Projects.
The Two Wells Samphire Coast Shorebird Trails at Thompson Beach allows you to learn more about the secret lives of shorebirds and the samphire smorgasbord. Look for up to 40 species of shorebirds and waterbirds- the numbers and variety will vary with the seasons and available food. Take the North Trail-Thompson Beach to Bakers Creek, which is 5 kilometres return. Or the South Trail-Thompson Beach to Third Creek, which is 3.6 kilometres return.
Get off the beaten track and follow the Goyder Northern and Southern Driving Trails. Woodforde Goyder was Deputy Surveyor-General for South Australia and he plotted the line of separation between land suitable for viable agriculture and land suitable for grazing, now known as Goyder's line. You'll see a stunning array of scenery, from the intense colours of cereal crops to remote outback panoramas. Both trails begin and end in Market Square, Burra.
Riverton Trails are leisurely stroll of 1 kilometre or a good bicycle ride of 34 kilometres. The Riverton Trails take you through the picturesque Gilbert Valley, showing you Riverton's natural beauty without the need to retrace your steps.
The Redbanks Conservation Park Walking Trail is characterised by rugged earth gorges and predominantly two types of vegetation - mallee scrub and Blackbush with Bluebush.
