Cycling
South Australia is home to the Tour Down Under - the first ProTour outside of Europe - held here every January. We're also home to a fabulous network of cycling trails, weaving through metropolitan areas to the sea, through vineyard vistas and more. Read on for your cycling holiday ideas.
Tour Down Under
The Tour Down Under attracts cycling superstars from around the globe. You can watch the action from key locations throughout South Australia - and even better, you can take part. There are Tour Down Under legs open to the public. You can feel like a cycling superstar, pedalling the same route and speeding across the same finishing line. There's even special racing legs for the children. And it seems that all of South Australia joins in for the Tour, with towns along the route dressing up to win awards.
Cycling guidelines
Australian law requires that cyclists must wear a helmet, whether riding on roads or bicycle paths. Helmets must meet the Australian Standard (certified with a sticker labelled AS2063). You can read more about road safety rules at Transport SA's cycling safety pages.
City cycling
You can grab a bike and ride around the Adelaide city centre for an hour, with the free city bike hire. And you'll find bike maps at Transport SA's website.
