School Holiday Ideas
Take a look at these school holiday ideas ...
It's always a good time to explore South Australia with the children, but during school holiday periods you'll find many special children's events to captivate the imagination.
Carclew Youth Arts Centre in North Adelaide offers an eclectic and exciting school holiday program. On Sundays, it's Funday at the South Australian Museum, and school holidays bring additional fun activities and entertainment. There's often games on the front lawns. Walk by and see. And Rundle Mall in the heart of the Adelaide city centre always has some fun children's activities during the school holidays.
Year round, the Adelaide Festival Centres hosts Something on Saturday, a much-loved children's program including theatre shows and hands-on craft activities.
There's always something to do in Port Adelaide. Board a train at the National Railway Museum and pretend to drive the train yourself. Or explore the Maritime Museum, where you can climb aboard a ketch and imagine life at sea. There's bustling markets on the weekend, with lots to offer the whole family.
Children love the Adelaide Zoo in the city, where they can see sealions, lions, leopards, gorillas, penguins and more being fed. And they can pat friendly animals in the Children's Zoo. During school holidays, the zoo has a special program to captivate children.
In Glenelg, don't miss the Beachouse, with its water slides, beautiful carousel, bumper boats, dodgem cars, arcade games and more - all in a new, modern complex.
Further afield, hop aboard the Pichi Richi railway in the beautiful Flinders Ranges - it's a journey the whole family can enjoy during school holidays.
Of course, there are plenty of zoos and nature parks in South Australia. Read about them on our Nature for Families page.
And holidays are always a great time to explore our museums, where children get a kick out of toy displays, fossils, space suits and more. See our Fun and Learning page for detailed ideas.
