Flinders Ranges Food & Wine
From the ocean to the Outback, food and wine lovers will not have to look very hard to find regional fare in the Flinders Ranges and Outback.
Food and wine production is primarily concentrated in the Southern Flinders Ranges with wine grape growing, honey production, bush food plantations, gourmet meats and some South Australian food icons thrown in for good measure. Keep your eye out for quandong pies and saltbush lamb at bush bakeries and enjoy great regional dishes at welcoming country pubs, cafés and restaurants throughout the region.
Don't miss the Wirrabara Producers Market held on the third Sunday of every month. Visit Remarkable View Wines in the high country of the Southern Flinders Ranges, the coffee shop within Bluey Blundstone's Black Smith in Melrose, or the celebrated Old Stone Hut Bakery just outside of Laura.
Laura is also home to the delectable Golden North Ice Cream which features among South Australia's food icons.
And of course, there's the famed Prairie Hotel and its 'feral food' for a real taste of the Outback, and also the Prairie's sister hotel, the North Star Hotel including cellar door and some of the best coffee around.
The annual Tastes of the Outback is a roving regional food and wine feast, incorporating venues from as far afield as Innamincka and William Creek. The festival includes Australian country music icons Lee Kernaghan and Troy Cassar-Daley, a short film festival and more.
It's all here, scattered across the vast and beautiful Flinders Ranges and Outback. Hop into your car and take the journey today.
