Harvest Work & Voluntary Work

Harvest Work
Look for seasonal harvesting work in South Australia's citrus, grape and stonefruit industries. Many Adelaide and regional hostels display harvest job opportunities, and fellow travellers are always good for word-of-mouth information. You can read about harvest opportunities, harvest locations, accommodation, transport and more at the Harvest Trail website.

Grab a copy of the National Harvest Guide which contains information about harvest work opportunities, working conditions, transport and accommodation. Or call the National Harvest Telephone Information Service on 1800 062 332. It's open weekdays from 8am to 8pm and it's a free call.

Read Bringing in the Harvest - A Guide to Seasonal Work (Hills, Fleurieu, Murraylands and Riverland), available at Centrelink and Job Network providers in the regions. To obtain a copy before arrival please contact: Adelaide Hills Regional Development on+61 8 8370 8808, Fleurieu Regional Development on +61 8 8555 5555 or Murraylands Regional Development Board: +61 8 8532 1202.

If you'd like to work on an organic farm in exchange for board and lodging, the Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF) program might be for you. It's a form of cultural exchange and there are 100 WWOOF farms in South Australia.

Are you up for the challenge of working in the outdoors in some of South Australia's most famous regions, such as Kangaroo Island, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills? CREAM Harvest has positions in general harvest, fruit and vegetable picking.

And for a great range of interesting and varied jobs all over South Australia for backpackers and working holiday makers, see the Work In South Australia website.

Voluntary Work
Would you like to get involved in community projects while you're visiting South Australia? By becoming involved in ecologically friendly tourism experiences, you can experience the pristine environment, while also contributing to the protection of delicate ecosystems for future generations.

Volunteer programs running throughout South Australia include activities such as surveying and monitoring endangered flora and fauna, maintaining trails, tree planting and seed collection, habitat restoration and scientific research.

You can be an assistant ranger at Birds Australia Gluepot Reserve  assisting with on-site research projects and biodiversity projects such as bird, reptile, mammals and vegetation monitoring. Join the Conservation Volunteers Australia for a short time, helping with tree planting, endangered species protection, flora and fauna surveys and more.

For more voluntary opportunities, see our Conservation pages.
