Adelaide's streets are home to the exhilarating Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 Supercar race an event that has been inducted into the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame as the best in the country. Adelaide heats up as Ford and Holden petrolheads get the chance to watch their teams battle it out for first place on the podium.
Classic Adelaide Australia's foremost international tarmac rally for classic sporting vehicles is also held in South Australia. These classic cars travel through some of our most spectacular countryside testing the powers of their engines. Past drivers have included Hollywood star Eric Bana, racing legends Jack Brabham and Jacques Villeneuve, and Australian cycling superstar Stuary O'Grady to name a few.
You can catch sprintcar racing at Adelaide's Speedway City which hosts some phenomenal racing and has seen several national titles decided. There are more kinds of racing, including extreme drift, truck and motorcycle racing at Mallala Motorsport Park. And you can race around the track yourself, by jumping into a car with Trackskill.
For some off-road action, head to the Barossa and Mount Crawford Forest in August to see rally cars hit the dirt for the Toyota Rally SA.
If you're an adrenaline junkie and want to feel the power of two wheels underneath you, there's a heap of motorcycle clubs throughout South Australia to satisfy your craving. Various clubs specialise in dirt track, enduro, moto trials, motocross, road race, reliability trials and speedway motorcycle racing.
And if you'd like to explore the history of motoring in Australia, there's no better place than the National Motor Museum with more than 300 vehicles to check out.
