Mt Remarkable National Park
Mount Remarkable National Park boasts some of the best bushwalking opportunities in South Australia.
This park is 16,000 hectares, stretching from the coastal plain on the western side of the Flinders Ranges to the foothills above the town of Wilmington. This location makes it a key conservation area with an intriguing mix of flora and fauna from both environments.
You'll find a number of walking trails, including a section of the Heysen Trail. These lead you on the ultimate bush adventure to the heart of this pristine natural environment, and to several campgrounds that can only be accessed by foot.
You may see kangaroos here including Euros and Western Grey Kangaroos. Emus roam freely in the park whilst the Red Kangaroo is occasionally seen on the plains and western foothills near Mambray Creek. In early spring watch out for echidnas within the park.
Autumn to spring is the best time to visit Mount Remarkable National Park when the weather is mild and vegetation and wildlife thriving.
Walking trails begin at Mambray Creek, Alligator Gorge and Melrose. These trails cater for all ages and levels of fitness, varying in length and difficulty from challenging overnight treks and the long distance Heysen Trail to the easier shorter walks at Alligator Gorge and Melrose. Due to the park's rugged nature, a careful, responsible and well-planned approach to bushwalking is essential for your safety.
Mount Remarkable is only a three hour drive from Adelaide, so get out there and experience it for yourself.
Facilities include a ranger on site, toilets, disabled toilets, picnic area, walking trails, barbecue facilities, drinking water, camping, caravan site, accommodation, showers. Campfires allowed.
