Backpacking Riverland
The Riverland is a great destination for backpackers. The laidback river lifestyle, great water sports and nature activites make it an easy choice to stay a while. Where to stay? Here are a couple of backpacker hostels:
Berri Backpackers Resort
Old Sturt Highway, Berri SA 5343
Telephone: 61(+8) 8582 3144
Email: need@email.com
Harvest Trail Lodge
1 Kokoda Terrace, Loxton SA 5333
Telephone: 61(+8) 8584 5646
Nomads On Murray
Sturt Highway, Kingston-On-Murray SA 5331
Telephone: 61(+8) 8583 0211
Each has a distinctive style, from gorgeous river scenery at Kingston-On-Murray, to a secret tree house hideaway at Berri.
And houseboats (great to share with friends or local travellers) can be hired for short or long term cruises - all you need is a full Australian or international drivers's licence or a Austalian motorboat licence. See our houseboats page for more information.
The Riverland has good work for travellers pretty well all year - half of all South Australia's grapes are grown here, along with citrus, olives and other garden crops. Local farmers and orchards are always looking for help with fruit picking and pruning vines. Jobs can be organised through the hostels, and usually include pick up and return.
