Day One: Arrive at the Prairie Hotel at approximately 3pm - Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby Tour.
We'll take you in search of the rare (and incredibly cute) Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby. This elusive little fella can be found in Brachina Gorge, one of the Flinders Ranges National Park's most spectacular attractions and a haven for many native species. Rock fragments in Brachina date back 500 to 600 million years, so there's a fair bit of history to share.
Return to the Prairie Hotel to experience the hospitality and cuisine that the Prairie is world renowned for. Tonight you'll dine under the canopy of an outback sky with a menu prepared by Andrew Fielke. Local singer/songwriter John O'Dea will entertain with his Australian Heritage Music. Tonight you'll enjoy the award winning luxury of the Prairie Hotel.
Day Two: Wake to see a sunrise over the Flinders Ranges that fills you with awe. Enjoy a hearty Prairie breakfast before departing for Nilpena Station.
Expert drovers will match you to your mount, and before long you'll be ambling along on horseback - hearing about life as a drover, feeling the sun on your back, seeing magnificent desert landscapes (from gibber plains to sandy creek beds lined with majestic river red gums), and smelling the desert at dusk.
Around midday we'll break for lunch as the cattle are spelled. Enjoy a fresh packed lunch and billy tea in a shady creek bed. Hear more stories from local characters and take the time to stretch out or explore your surroundings for some awesome photographic opportunities.
After lunch continue your ride where you'll learn to identify various animal tracks and native plants. And you'll tail the cattle until late in the afternoon, with the sinking sun guiding you in to the camp for the night.
Rest assured, you won't go hungry after the day in the saddle. You'll enjoy a gourmet dinner with premium beers and award winning South Australian wines.
When it's time to say goodnight, you'll roll out your swag and be lulled to sleep with the view of an amazing Outback night sky.
Day Three: Continue on your ultimate Outback Adventure. You'll travel across the amazing desert landscapes of Nilpena Station: it's right on the edge of red sand dunes which sweep far away to the north; and to the east you'll get panoramic views of the Flinders Ranges. For guests wanting a break from riding, there's a four wheel drive vehicle waiting to take you to some amazing sights on Nilpena Station. With a National Heritage Fossil Area, the shimmering expanse of salt on Lake Torrens, relics of European settlement and Aboriginal occupation, and locations you'll recognise from feature films including Rabbit Proof Fence, you'll have plenty to see and do.
Day Four: Wake to a brilliant Flinders Ranges sunrise and watch the sun burn a multitude of colours over the ranges. Billy tea and damper is a fitting start to your day. After saying goodbye the droving team and a fond farewell to your mount, you'll head to the Prairie Hotel for warm showers, fluffy towels, and a hearty Prairie Hotel brunch.
