Shopping in our Regions

If you're keen to get out of the city but worried that you won't be able to hit the shops, never fear, many of South Australia's regional towns offer some exceptional shopping experiences.

The Adelaide Hills has great shopping spots throughout. Just off the freeway and not far from Adelaide, Stirling is home to the very cool Aptos Cruz with year round exhibitions, funky European furniture, tribal art, and bits and pieces from across the globe. Hahndorf has a range of gift shops and galleries that will tempt you to open the wallet, as does the small town of Balhannah. Make sure you visit Balhannah by Design if you need to grab a gift, there's also the delicious Cocolat and a jeweller. Woodside is a popular town with a number of good antique stores in the main street.

Strathalbyn's High St on the Fleurieu Peninsula offers a feast of antique stores that you can trawl through all day and if you need to get the energy levels up there's a range of cafes with good coffee and many displaying quality local artists. And Murray Bridge in the Murraylands is home to Uccello, offering the latest in homewares, gift ideas and stylish furniture, and it's a café too.

If you tire of shopping for wine, head to Clare's main street and browse through a number of speciality shops, look out for local handicrafts, artworks and produce while you're in the region.

If you get to Coober Pedy, make sure you come back with an opal or two - they're considered the world's best. Kangaroo Island's local produce is sold at spots all over the island, but you can head to Penneshaw or Kingscote for some modern conveniences.

The Limestone Coast's township of Robe is a popular seaside town offering great coffee, galleries and shops. And scattered throughout the Riverland, you'll find roadside stalls offering world class fruit, dried fruits and nuts.

If you're a lover of seafood, the Eyre Peninsula's Seafood and Aquaculture Trail showcases the regions' best producers along the coast. You can pick up fresh fish, oysters and more straight from the factory. And Whyalla, South Australia's second largest city, is a retail hub for the region, boasting several mega stores.

In towns throughout the Barossa you'll find art galleries and craft outlets, antique and curio stores, restaurants and cafes and there's even the Barossa Community Store in Nuriootpa, a one-stop-shop for clothing, hardware, electrical and supermarket lines.

On the Yorke Peninsula, hunt for antiques in Moonta and pick up a traditional Cornish pasty while you're there.
