Work and Business

It’s a brilliant blend

Adelaide is a great place to do business. If you’re planning a conference or event, there are venues to suit your every need. If you are travelling for work, there is plenty to entertain you once the work is done for the day.

Are you looking to stay a little longer? Find out what you need to know before moving to South Australia for work.

Crowne Plaza Adelaide, South Australia

Adelaide hosts a calendar full of major events. Adelaide's compact, well-planned layout is ideal for meetings and business events. You'll find an abundance of hotel rooms in the city centre, fabulous restaurants and attractions.

Conferences and conventions

The Adelaide Convention Bureau can help you through every stage of planning a conference or convention in Adelaide. Their local expertise will put you in touch with the right venues, caterers, tour operators and others that will help make your meeting a success.

While you’re here, you might have a chance to head outside the city centre. It's not far to drive to the Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills for a great day out. If you’ve got a few days to spare, Kangaroo Island is a short flight or a ferry ride away.

See the awesome Flinders Ranges in the South Australian outback. It’s about four hour's drive north of Adelaide. The Murray River is a relaxing backdrop to any event. Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula is a great location to include team-building activities such as swimming with sea lions. It’s an exhilarating experience.

Planning to live and work in South Australia?

A tax file number (TFN) is a unique number issued by the Australian Taxation Office. While it is not compulsory to have a TFN, if you do not have one, a higher amount of tax will be withheld than is necessary. All Working Holiday Visa applicants need to apply for a TFN before they can start work in Australia.

Working visa

A valid visa is required if you are a non-Australian resident. You must have a copy of a suitable visa to show employers. Applicants can register over the internet.

Transport

Make your own transport arrangements to and from your place of work. The public transport system covers the metropolitan area. You may find it useful to buy a car to make it easy to get around. Make sure you have sufficient insurance and health cover.

Bank account

Get an Australian bank account. Give your bank your tax file number to avoid higher rates of taxation on interest earned. Your bank account details will include: name of bank, account name, branch address, branch number (BSB) and account number.
