The Moonta Mines Tourist Railway is a 50 minute train ride through history.
The narrow gauge rail train takes visitors past and through many of the sites which played an important role in Moonta’s history as a major copper producing centre. Departing from the Station adjacent to the Moonta Mines Museum, passengers pass the reservoir and ore sorting floors, through a tunnel in Ryan's Tailings Heap to the former Precipitations Works for an inspection of the story of copper recovery, before beginning the return journey.
Visitors can also see the restored horse drawn tram and old blacksmith shop (working blacksmith available for groups by appointment only). The 'Party Express' is available for children's parties.
Multi ticket admission is available to the Moonta Mines Museum, Miners Cottage, Moonta Mines Tourist Railway, and Wheal Hughes mine. Wheelchair access is also available on request.
Please note: train rides are subject to weather.
