The Horndale Cellars were established in the late 1890's. Built on the hillside, the stone used for the walls of the winery were quarried on the property. Of the 310 acres of vines that once made up Horndale there remains only one and a half acres which are planted to Red Frontignac grapes, from which is made the feature wine Old Horndale Brandy Wood Frontignac Tawny Port.
Apart from this small crush, the other wines are made off premises. The cellar door is open for tasting and sales seven days a week. Adjoining the cellar door is the old Number One Spirit Store, which has been converted to a function room and restaurant with the addition of a kitchen and toilet block.
In addition to the range of bottled wines they now have available in bulk, with a two litre minimum, a range of ports, Sherries and Muscat. Another popular item with both local and interstate visitors is the range of genuine oak barrels, fully seasoned in sizes from two litre to fifty litres, all filled with Tawny Port.
