For Wine or Reason is based in Adelaide and specialises in intimate and informative winery tours for small groups wishing to explore Barossa, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. We will show you the best of what South Australia has to offer.

As an accredited tourism business with the South Australian Tourism Industry Council and a member of the Chauffeured Vehicle Association, the Owner/Tour-Guide has been in the industry for many years and loves his work (food, wine are my passion).

Due to our personal relationships with the wineries you will enjoy free wine tastings, premium tastings are at an extra cost, pick up and return from Adelaide or the region of your tour.

The Adelaide Hills region is one of the cooler wine Provinces of mainland Australia and South Australia's oldest wine regions, dating back to 1845. It is home to a range of quality boutique and gourmet food producers with fascinating little road-side stalls which are a common site alongside farmers markets on weekends. The region produces sparkling and still wines. Principal varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and elegant Shiraz.

A leisurely two hour drive from Adelaide, Clare Valley is recognised as the Riesling Capital of Australia. It is Australia's smallest and one of the leading viticulture regions. It is famed for its wine and pioneering heritage. James Halliday (Australian wine critic) says, unlocking the secrets of the Clare Valley is a pastime open to all who visit this most beautiful part of Australia. See Vignerons at work in 150-year-old cellars. Principal varieties in the Clare Valley are Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

McLaren Vale Intimate Wine Tour

McLaren Vale - where the vines meet the sea. Only a 30 minute drive from Adelaide, this beautiful wine mecca has a Mediterranean climate and is arguably one of the premier Shiraz growing regions in the world. McLaren Vale is a tiny piece of paradise with two passions - 'food and wine'. Driving over the first row of hills, you will be met by a vista of undulating vineyards with the backdrop of the picturesque Mount Lofty Ranges rolling to the sea.

Varietals grown include Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre. Attractions which can be visited include:
Alexandrina Cheese Company: view cheese making and enjoy the delectable dairy delights.
Steam Ranger: enjoy ocean views between Goolwa and Victor Harbour on the Cockle Train.
The horse drawn tram: one of the few remaining public transit services of its kind in the world. The Murray Mouth: where the Murray River meets the Southern Ocean and whale watching: mid-May you may sight Southern Right Wales.

Barossa via Adelaide Hills Wineries Tour

The Barossa is located 70 kilometres northeast of Adelaide. Taste the full bodied wine from some of the oldest vines in the world. Varietals include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache.

Of course, with great wine comes great food, so make sure you leave enough time to sample some of the locally produced delights. Rich with European heritage the Barossa was first established in 1842 by immigrants from England, Germany and Silesia. The Barossa is referred as similar to the Bordeaux, Napa and Tuscany Wine Regions.

Attractions which may be visited include;
The Barossa Farmers Market: (held Saturday mornings) features real food from the homes and farms of the Barossa.
The Whispering Wall: where a whisper at one end can be heard at the other.
The Herbig Tree: this hollow tree trunk provided a 'home' for the Herbig's and two of their 16 children.
Maggie Beer's Farm where you can taste local gourmet delights and Menglers Hill Lookout for a panoramic view of the Barossa Valley.
