Australian Wilderness Adventures is a tour company born from a desire by two of Australia's most experienced wilderness guides, Holger Strie and Richard Mayne, to take people into the wilds of this beautiful country, onto the paths less travelled, and into the heart of the Australian wilderness. Their focus is on small group, deep immersion wilderness experiences with a commitment to sustainable eco-tourism principles. They employ passionate, highly experienced, professional guides who deliver world class tours in some of the most spectacular places in Australia.

Australian Wilderness Adventures understands that by looking after wilderness areas and having a total 'leave no trace' policy, they are preserving the areas that they visit for future generations. They abide by and believe in the philosophy that when you look after the land, the land looks after you.

Australian Wilderness Adventures operates extended multi-day trekking tours to Kangaroo Island and the Heysen Trail in the Flinders Ranges, highlighting some of the most remote and secluded regions of these world famous destinations. Experience Kangaroo Island's abundant wildlife and spectacular coastal scenery, and enjoy the Heysen Trail - Flinders Ranges' spectacular views while sleeping under a million stars.

Heysen Trail - Flinders Ranges

To explore the Flinders Ranges is to experience the essence of Australia. Sir Hans Heysen remarked it was akin to seeing 'the bones of nature laid bare'. With its rugged mountain peaks, immense gorges, sweeping arid desert country and alpine like forests - the Flinders is a truly unforgettable experience.

The Heysen Trail is rated as one of the premier long distance walks of the world and Australian Wilderness Adventures takes you to the heart of it - the northern Flinders Ranges. This seven day tour gives you the time to properly explore this most spectacular wilderness region; experiencing the Heysen Trail, Wilpena Pound and St Mary Peak, the Aroona Valley, Brachina and Warren Gorges, Dutchman's Stern and the Mount Remarkable National Park. Passionate and knowledgeable guides provide a truly memorable walking experience.

Departs in 2013 on Sunday 14 April, 28 April, 25 August, 8 September, and 29 September.

Kangaroo Island Walking Tour

Kangaroo Island is only 15 kilometres from the South Australian mainland and is Australia's third largest island. 'KI' (as the locals call it) boasts a breathtaking diversity of natural environments to discover. Australian Wilderness Adventures offers a five day, four night, fully accommodated walking holiday to this truly unique island environment, taking you to places that few visitors to the Island ever experience. Kangaroo Island has rugged coastlines, spectacular old growth native flora and of course the most incredible native wildlife.

Today, more than one-third of the island is declared conservation or national park. The Flinders Chase National Park where you will spend the majority of your time exploring, walking and swimming is at the western end of the island. Accommodation is in rustic cabins, and you will be served Kangaroo Island's finest local produce. Enjoy some of the best walks in Australia. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit Kangaroo Island as it enjoys mild sunny days and cooler evenings.

Departs in 2013 on Monday 8 April, 6 May, 13 May, 2 September, 16 September, 23 September, 14 October, 21 October and 28 October.
