You'll find Bay of Shoals Wines just five minutes outside of Kingscote, aptly named after the watery oasis that it overlooks. Famous for its rosé and sparkling wines, Bay of Shoals produces its wines entirely on the island, with all grapes handpicked and vines hand pruned. Writers tip: Make the most of the picturesque views and grab a hamper of local produce for a romantic picnic amongst the vines.

False Cape Wines run the largest vineyard on Kangaroo Island, using sustainable practices to create minimal intervention wines that leave a lasting impression. The unique cellar door was hand built using recycled materials found on the property and can be found on the eastern side of the island, not far from Penneshaw and Cape Willoughby. Writers tip: the shaded deck is the perfect place to settle on a warm summer's day, while the indoor fireplace will keep you toasty during a winter visit. Keep an eye out for daily lunch specials - the home-style pies are to die for!

Boasting some of the best views on the island, no trip to Kangaroo Island is complete without a stop at Dudley Wines. Just a 15 minute drive from Penneshaw, this cellar door is perched clifftop, overlooking the Backstairs Passage (the section of water separating the island from the mainland). On a clear day you might see all the way to the Fleurieu Peninsula, but no matter the weather the sight of the rolling green hills and azure water below is mesmerising. Kick back on the lawns and enjoy a self-guided wine tasting.

Kangaroo Island Spirits is the island's only boutique distillery, and amazingly, the first gin distillery to exist in Australia! Visit the cellar door and discover an array of gins, vodkas and liqueurs created with native botanicals and inspired by the unique landscapes of the island. Writer's tip: try your hand at crafting your very own gin with the Gin Blending Masterclass.

Available exclusively through the cellar door at Emu Ridge and a few venues throughout the island, this charming brand creates a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic ciders to refresh you after a long day of exploring.

A popular watering hole for locals and visitors alike, be sure to visit on a weekend to order a delicious pizza alongside your tasting paddle. Writer's tip: we recommend trying the sparkling ale and ginger beer to shake things up!

THE ISLANDER ESTATE

The Islander Estate was established by renowned Bordeaux winemaker Jacques Lurton, who fell in love with the natural beauty of Kangaroo Island and decided to start a winery to reflect the charm of the island. Today, the winery's intimate tasting room is located in Cygnet River, where visitors are invited to quench their thirst with French-style wines like Pétiyante and Cabernet Franc.
