Natural beauty

Like a ruffled quilt, the Clare Valley is a combination of rolling vine and tree-clad hills and spectacular agricultural plains. Drive in any direction for views that will stay with you forever.

The region offers a network of trails, with several designed in loops so they can be easily negotiated. Drop in to a Visitor Information Centre and grab a brochure to help you plan your visit. You’ll find them in Clare and Burra. Just look for the blue sign with a yellow “i” on it.

Self drive and see more

The Clare Valley also features in several self drive itineraries, including the River and Wine drive, from either Sydney or Melbourne; the Clare Valley and Flinders Ranges self drive itinerary; the Adelaide to Perth itinerary and Best of Flinders Ranges.

Foodies will love the Great South Australian Wine and Food drive or try The WOW Tour -Wildlife, Outback and Wine - for something different.

Cycle instead

The Clare Valley is heaven for bike riders. The 35 kilometre Riesling Trail and 19 kilometre Rattler Trail link many towns and wineries and there are secluded picnic spots along the way. There are numerous bike hire companies around the region to collect your bike from.

If you fancy something a little more refined, enjoy the vistas from the comfort of a luxury, chauffeur driven vintage or classic car.

Head to Burra. It’s a town with a rich copper history and some great heritage trails.

Head off-road

Hire a four wheel drive (4WD) vehicle and head off-road. Clare is a great base for touring the north of South Australia and is very close to the Flinders Ranges.

See outback panoramas on the Goyder Regional Northern and Southern Tourist driving trails.

Food and wine

Food and wine dominate the tourism menu in the Clare Valley. The choices are overwhelming.

Take a “gourmet” themed tour. Tailor your package or go with the flow. Either way, your taste buds will be in for a treat.
