Fleurieu Peninsula Attractions

Life’s an adventure

There are many reasons why people holiday on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Surfing, fishing, diving, snorkelling, sailing, art, wine, food, golf, whale watching, hot air ballooning, historic biplanes, steam engines, kayaking and more.

Surfing at Middleton Beach, South Australia

If you surf (or always wanted to), then pick your waves. Beginners can head to Middleton and Goolwa for lessons. These beaches are also great for the more experienced, along with Southport, Boomer Beach and Waitpinga.

Wet a line

The fishing on the Fleurieu Peninsula is great too. Go angling for freshwater trout at Mount Compass. There’s bream, mullet and mulloway along the coast. Try the Murray River to hook a monster carp.

Spot a whale

It’s beautiful to see these creatures slapping their tails and playing in the waters off Port Elliot, Middleton and Victor Harbor. They travel through on their way back to Antarctica in late winter and early spring. The South Australian Whale Centre at Victor Harbor has a sightings information line and a wealth of information about whales.

Prepare to dive

Try the wrecks of the HMAS Hobart (off Rapid Bay) or the Star of Greece, which sank in 1888. There are reefs off Port Noarlunga, Aldinga, Second Valley and Victor Harbor. For the adventurous (and experienced), trek through Deep Creek Conservation Park to The Blowhole.

Hit the links

There are courses at The Links Lady Bay Resort and McCracken Country Club in Victor Harbor. You’ll find many other picturesque courses dotted around the Fleurieu Peninsula’s towns. For the kids, there’s also a minigolf course with lighthouses, whales and boats on the foreshore at Victor Harbor. Take them to Greenhills Adventure Park for a fun day out.

Tour the galleries

Art is another drawcard for the Fleurieu Peninsula. It attracts many artists and their works are displayed in the local galleries. There are a few art trails to follow. You’ll discover the studios, workshops and galleries as you pass by.
