The Heysen Trail
If you like hiking, the Heysen Trail begins on the Fleurieu Peninsula, near the ferry terminal at Cape Jervis. This beautiful and challenging clifftop walk is one of the many highlights of the area. The beaches are great for swimming and relaxing. Many beaches have strong surf. Go fishing or surfing anytime of the year. Go whale watching in winter. Pack up the car and leave the city behind you.
Deep Creek Conservation Park
Deep Creek Conservation Park has a range of campsites. See echidnas, kangaroos and sea eagles in the natural setting. A short hike will give you spectacular views over Backstairs Passage, the stretch of water between Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island.
Newland Head Conservation Park
Roll out of your tent right next to the beach at Newland Head Conservation Park. It’s close to plenty of beaches and the popular seaside town, Victor Harbor. Newland Head is a great spot if you like fishing. There are plenty of spots to catch a mulloway or two for the camp barbecue.
Aldinga and McLaren Vale
Aldinga Beach Holiday Park will let you feel like you’re ‘roughing it’ in the bush but with modern facilities close at hand. Be sure to visit local wineries in McLaren Vale. The Willunga Farmers’ Market is on every Saturday and has everything you need to eat like royalty. Aldinga has great fishing spots. Check out hiking trails and Hindmarsh Falls. McLaren Vale Lakeside Caravan Park has basic campsites through to comfortable cabins. It is set in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region and is ideal for families. The park features a swimming pool, tennis courts and playground. It’s a great base location for touring the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Goolwa Caravan Park has spacious grass areas, picnic and barbecue settings. There is easy access to the Murray River. The Goolwa Caravan Park has a range of campsites and cabins. It’s a great location for visiting the Coorong, Murray Mouth, local art and craft galleries, wineries and beaches.
