Flinders Ranges and Outback Four Wheel Driving

Head off-road

There’s something magical about four wheel driving (4WD) through the Flinders Ranges and outback of South Australia.

Four wheel driving, Flinders Ranges, South Australia

Tackle the Skytrek four wheel drive (4WD) adventure at Willow Springs Station and look out over the Northern Flinders Ranges. The track takes you over old mining tracks and station roads. Discover just how vast Australia’s interior is.

An experience of a lifetime

Come for an adventure. Bring your four wheel drive (4WD) and tackle the rugged peaks of the ranges or conquer the corrugated red dunes of the Simpson Desert.

It is an adventurer’s paradise that you can see in style, by yourself or with guides. The choice is yours. Strike out on your own, go in a convoy of like-minded travellers or let a host do all the driving. Camp under millions of stars or relax in a resort.

Explore the tracks

Most people will never get out this way. Cross the rippled, red sand. Drive along the Birdsville Track or Oodnadatta Track. Climb the amazing rock formation at Wilpena Pound.

See sky bluer than any in the city. Hike to the summit of St Mary’s Peak. Traverse the Simpson Desert or Strzelecki Track. Visit the graves of explorers, Burke and Wills at Innamincka. See the breathtaking view from Ridgetop Lookout. These are sights for the intrepid, for you.

Drive safely

Always check for up to date information before travelling on four wheel drive (4WD) tracks in the Flinders Ranges and outback of South Australia. Take adequate food, water and petrol in case of a breakdown. Tell someone your journey plans. When travelling in remote areas, carry a satellite phone in case of emergencies.
