Kangaroo Island Cellar Doors
Explore a new wine region
You might visit Kangaroo Island for the wildlife but you’ll fall in love with the wine. It’s one of South Australia’s newest wine regions. The wines have strong fruit flavours and intense colours. Taste samples at cellar doors.
Two Wheeler Creek Wines has the most westerly vineyard on the island. The cool climate conditions produce excellent white wines. Try the Sauvignon Blanc. The cellar door is at Andermel Marron, Parndana. It’s open for tastings seven days a week. Enjoy a meal of fresh marron while you’re there.
Bay of Shoals Wines has a maritime theme. It is north of Kingscote, overlooking Bay of Shoals and Reeves Point. The cellar door is open seven days. Try Rosé and late harvest Riesling. The grapes are hand-picked.
Cellar doors with a view
Dudley Wines is one of the island’s original wineries. The cellar door is open seven days. Drop in and taste the full range. Stay for the afternoon and relax on the deck overlooking Backstairs Passage. Indulge in a platter of regional produce.
Try False Cape Wines. The wines have excellent varietal characters and age well. The Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet are award-winning wines. Tastings are available at the Kangaroo Island Seafront Resort in Penneshaw.
Something a little stronger
For something different, try Kangaroo Island Spirits. It’s the island’s only boutique distillery. The range includes six liqueurs, three vodkas and a premium gin. The cellar door is open Wednesday through Sunday.
Rookery Wines is a boutique winery. The Lovering family run it and have lived on Kangaroo Island for three generations. Cellar door tastings are available at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery and Craft Gallery.
Bush setting
Sunset Winery is one of the island’s oldest. It’s set amongst native bushland. There are birds, kangaroos, goannas and echidnas. Try wine and enjoy a light lunch. Relax on the all weather deck. The cellar door has sea views over Eastern Cove and beyond. It’s open daily.
