Yorke Peninsula Attractions

Let’s get started

There's more to Yorke Peninsula than just the beautiful beaches and great fishing spots. The entire peninsula is jam-packed with fun things to see and do, from golden barley farms to golfing greens.

Blacksmith, Moonta Mines, South Australia

Yorke Peninsula boasts a wide and varied heritage. Many towns have their own local museum to inform, educate and entertain. Of particular note is the Moonta Mines Museum, full of information about the region's rich mining history.

Home Grown Trail

You are welcomed into real farms and working businesses to see what they do and how they do it. Pat baby alpacas in Minlaton and Wool Bay or learn about horse training in Kadina. The Orrie Cowie Merino stud in Warooka will even give you the chance to watch sheepdogs in action.

The Yorke Peninsula's first cellar door, Barley Stacks Wines, is part of the trail. Visit the Port Vincent Primary School Marine Study Centre. Take the opportunity to see the workings of one of the world's largest agricultural companies, Viterra, at ports in Ardrossan, Wallaroo and Port Giles.

Mining history

Those of you who'd prefer to do your learning in the fresh air can take it all in on the Moonta Mines Tourist Railway. A 50 minute round trip visits major historic sites around the Moonta Mines State Heritage area.

Something nautical

Surrounded by treacherous coast, several Yorke Peninsula lighthouses are worth checking out. Cape Spencer, Corny Point, Troubridge Hill and nearby Troubridge Island are all popular places to go. Each has its own piece of nautical history. To learn more about the area’s history, visit the Wallaroo Heritage and Nautical Museum or the Port Victoria Museum.

To get a little closer to the action, there are also two underwater maritime heritage trails. Wardang Island Maritime Heritage Trail and Investigator Strait Shipwreck Trail both pass the various shipwrecks in the area. Waterproof trail maps are available to purchase from the Visitor Information Centres in Minlaton and Kadina.

Arts and crafts

Art galleries and studios have popped up all over the Yorke Peninsula. They display pieces from talented, local artists. You'll find books, pottery, quilting, painting, woodwork and giant scrap iron sculptures. As well as having all the details on the local area, the Yorke Peninsula Visitor Information Centre in Minlaton displays a variety of crafts.

Sweet tooth?

Take note. The Minlaton Chocolaterie creates its own unique blends that are rich, creamy and full of flavour. You’ll find it on Main Street in Minlaton, just a couple of doors down from the Yorke Peninsula Visitor Information Centre.

If you visit the Moonta Mines, drop into the Coffee Barn Gelateria. Taste the handmade gelato. It’s simply delicious.

It’s time to get out there and enjoy yourself! Visit Yorke Peninsula.
