Whale Watching

Southern right whales

South Australia offers some of the best whale watching opportunities in the world. In the winter months, southern right whales head into local waters on their annual migration path. They are visible around the coastline.

Whale Watching, Middleton, Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia

The dramatic cliffs of the Eyre Peninsula offer spectacular viewing points, particularly at Head of Bight. Closer to Adelaide, the whales visit waters off the Fleurieu Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and the Limestone Coast.

The South Australian Whale Centre at Victor Harbor provides updates on sighting locations.

Various tour companies around the South Australian coast offer sightseeing boat tours and guided walks to popular lookout spots. For the ultimate whale watching experience, take a charter flight over the Great Australian Bight coastline. Sometimes, more than a dozen whales can be seen frolicking with their young.
