Our Wine & Food
Must See, Must Do
- Tour the Central Market
-
If you're after a meal or a drink in Adelaide, there are more than 700 restaurants, cafes and pubs waiting for you. But if there's one thing you absolutely must do, it's to take a trip to the Adelaide Central Market - the hub of our food and wine obsession, central meeting spot for Adelaidians, and the largest covered market in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Visit Barossa Farmer's Market
-
A trip to the Barossa Valley wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Saturday Farmer's Market. Locals and visitors alike rub elbows with a host of food producers, farmers and regional chefs shopping for their restaurants. Grab a coffee, one of the best bacon and egg sandwiches on the planet. Find a seat on a hay bale and take in this feast for the senses.
- Sample ethnic delights on Gouger Street
-
Gateway to the famed Adelaide Central Market and the exotic, bustling mall and foodhalls of Chinatown, Gouger Street is Adelaide's key 'eat street', where cultural diversity is delicious. Take a five-minute stroll down Gouger Street and you'll be embarking on a world tour of restaurants. Traditional Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Japanese, Asian fusion, noodle bars, regional Chinese and yum cha, French and Argentine cuisine, and a number of first-rate seafood restaurants.
- Dine at award-winning restaurants
-
Adelaide and its environs are home to some of Australia's top rated restaurants. Dine at Magill Estate, overlooking the city and the original Penfolds Grange vineyards and be sure not to overlook Bridgewater Mill for a spectacular feast in the cosy yet contemporary dining room at Petaluma Winery. Appellation in the Barossa, the famous Grange in downtown Adelaide, and other innovative locales make this a food and wine destination like no other.
- Taste premium Australian wines
-
If you know wine, then you know South Australia. Names like the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra are famous the world over. All of the wine regions are easily accessible from Adelaide and you can meet many of our expert winemakers in person, at wineries and cellar doors throughout the state. You'll get to see the faces behind the labels, and talk about the craft they love.
- Make your own blend at famous Penfold's
-
One of the most famous South Australian wineries, Penfold's offers a Make Your Own Blend Tour at their Barossa Valley cellar door. Guests are invited to the Winemakers' Laboratory to try their hand at blending their own wine from Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre, like Penfolds' own Bin 138.
